Regent's is an extraordinary venue. It's Like Oxford, but in the heart of London. I can't imagine running a large scale industry event like The London Screenwriters' Festival anywhere else!
Regent's Arts Festival 2014 was a tremendous fortnight of creative contributions from the staff and students of Regent's University London - the home of Regent's Conferences & Events. Here we recount the challenge faced and overcome by the events team and highlight the flexibility and scope of the venues rooms & spaces.
30 plus events spaced over 2 weeks of events. Indoor and outdoor spaces were needed that would encourage guests to get creative and have fun with performances, exhibitions, seminars and hands-on activities to suit everyone. It would also give guests the chance to see the event spaces in action and get a tour of the venue and gardens.
The venue is no stranger to festivals or large scale events (Regent's University London been the home of The London Screenwriters' Festival for the last three years and last year were the host venue for Topshop Spring Summer fashion show) but the University has recently seen its degree subjects expand, student numbers grow, and event requirements ever more complex.
With its high ceilings and elegant interior Herringham Hall was used for the festival opening. The high ceilings were ideal for the live set from Stella and the Shakes, winners of the Mayor of London Gigs Big Busk Competition 2013 who performed that evening.
The room also played host to an Indian dance workshop, a Dragons Den for aspiring entrepreneurs and a fashion show which proved to be a sell-out success.
The 'Visualise' photography exhibition premiered in the venues modern gallery with work encompassing both film and digital photography.
The gallery also complemented a series of fresh inventive and dynamic new plays, readings and a book launch.
The Knapp Gallery was also used for smaller fashion shows throughout the course of the festival.
The wood panelled sophistication of Tuke Common Room lent itself well to events such as creative writing workshops, music appreciation shows, watercolour workshops, and talks.
Regent's Garden Tour of the outside events spaces was an exciting walk around the campus tour that highlighted 34 key points including beehives and a secret garden.
The Grand final of the Regent's Trivia Challenge took place in the venues 370 seat auditorium.
Refreshment needs varied according to the event but the onsite catering team were certainly up for the challenge. Finger buffets, static canapés, wine receptions and drinks bar - all were handled with the precision and professionalism that the Regent's is known for.
Regent's Conferences & Events were proud to be involved in the organisation of this event which according to feedback improves better year after year thanks to the quality of work on show, and dedication of the people behind the scenes
